Pros and Cons of Home Based Business
• Pros:
o Lower costs: office or store rental, commuting to a job, tax deductions, child care savings.
o Time saved: work when you feel most productive, combine work and home chores, save on commuting time.
o Own boss: set own priorities and time commitments, direct financial benefit when you’re doing well.
o Can be home with family or great convenience if you happen to be disabled.
• Cons:
o Work space: may be hard to set up a permanent, undisturbed separate work space. If you must see clients or customers in your home it can involve costly renovations or you may have challenges creating a professional image.
o Time: can be difficult to find quiet time to work or, conversely, work may cut into your family life or personal life; it may be hard to “get started”.
o Travel: if you visit clients in their office or store it may require a lot of time and will involve higher costs in travel.
o Isolation: will you be able to handle being alone without the office chit-chat.
